Why are Lifestyle Cake-Smash sessions so great?!

From April until June it is baby season! Which means (yes you've guessed it) cake smash season!

Recently, I've been getting a lot of 'Gab's, I want something different to the normal studio cake smash! What else do you offer?'

PERFECT question!

When I actually say to people 'I do lifestyle shoots, which are mostly outside on location, so I would LOVE to offer you guys a lifestyle cake smash!'

People have been hesitant because photographers in my area just don't offer this!

Thankfully, a returning client of mine wanted to do an indoor lifestyle session for her baby's first birthday, and upon the day the weather outside was too nice (TOO nice for britain!) and we decided it would have been a shame to waste such a beautiful day, so we changed our plans and headed outside for some interesting snaps!

We were not disappointed.

Baby Lucas sat perfectly on a blue blanket, with a blue party hat on, held a '1' balloon, and had a few blue balloons dotted around him and in the background. We sat him in the very small community courtyard (which worked just fine, we didn't need anything extravagant or fancy), and used the shrubbery as a background.

My style allows me to work best outdoors with natural lighting, which is why I LOVE these outdoor sessions! Rain or shine, I am able to get the BEST out of every lifestyle session.

With any lifestyle session I always find it important to include the family members too, even if the main focus of the shoot is the baby. So we had mummy and daddy holding baby lucas' hands and walking him between them, which made Lucas very excited and giddy. Mummy was singing nursery rhymes to him in Latvian (their first language) and baby Lucas clapped along. It was simply PERFECT.

Now you're asking 'I thought this was a post about outdoor CAKE-SMASH sessions?'

Well it is!

Baby Lucas had cupcakes around him rather than a giant cake, because Lucas' mum wanted something different to what everybody else was having. It worked out perfectly, just because it went with the theme of a little tea party/ birthday picnic. Lucas still smashed the cakes up, and still made a mighty mess!

P.S. If you are thinking that you would be interested in a similar session, however with the traditional giant cupcake styled cake, this would STILL look amazing!

I will leave you guys with the photos that Lucas' mum chose for her 15 complimentary digitals, and give you an opportunity to decide whether or not this would be perfect for your tot as well!
